This Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not be playing the Las Vegas Raiders, as previously scheduled in the NFL. After at least one player from Vegas tested positive for the coronavirus, league officials announced the move. Now, the Seattle Seahawks will play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
The change to the schedule is intended to ensure that players have an NFL game to watch on Sunday. With significant sports betting interest behind the Seahawks whenever they play, this new game clearly won’t struggle to find an audience.
Trent Brown, a tackler for the Raiders, was placed on the COVID-19 reserve list this Wednesday. Brown is now at home in self-isolation, as per team policies. Officially, the league still expects the Raiders-Bucs game on Sunday, with the Seahawks-Cardinals bout serving as “plan B”.
Gareth Bale recently left Real Madrid to return to his former home in north London, Tottenham Hotspur. Now, after his first start (and victory) with Spurs in the Europa League, Bale is warning opponents he’ll only get sharper. The 31-year-old winger clocked 62 minutes in the game against Austrian side LASK in the Europa League and played a cross that led to an own goal.
However, for Bale, the 3-0 win on Thursday evening was just a warm-up. His team was the UK bookmakers favorite going into the match. The Welshman admits he is yet to hit top gear and considers himself to be in a sort of “mini pre-season”.
He expects to be back at full speed soon enough, though. “When I get fully match-fit I will be sharper, and I’ll hopefully contribute even more,” said Bale after the match.
South Africa’s Premier Soccer League Awards 2020 have come and gone. The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has walked away as the event’s biggest winner, taking home three awards, with the Sundowns dominating the night overall.
After winning the PSL title, the Nedbank Cup, and the Telkom Knockout Cup, the Sundowns took the domestic treble. Zwane won the PSL Footballer of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and Players’ Player of the Season awards.
Pitso Mosimane, who coached the Sundowns to the treble, won the PSL Coach of the Season award. Team captain Hlompho Kekana nabbed the PSL Goal of the Season (for his regular-season first-round goal against Cape Town City).
After just a handful of games in the 2020/21 season, the Real Madrid managerial rumour mill has started to turn, with Zinedine Zidane reportedly under growing pressure after a string of poor results. Recent back-to-back losses in La Liga to Cadiz and in the UEFA Champions League to Shakhtar Donetsk has seen the pressure pile on the Frenchman.
Zizou led a much-lauded campaign last season, winning his second La Liga crown as manager. However, a disappointing run of insipid performances seems to have placed Zidane in hot water.
According to reports, Real Madrid would already have two candidates lined up to take Zidane’s place. Former-Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino and Real Madrid legend Raúl make up the shortlist, with Real president Florentino Pérez favoring the former Madrid superstar.
FC Juarez have revealed three new positive coronavirus test results which includes two players and one member of the technical and coaching staff. The announcement didn’t specify which players had tested positive, but it will surely have an impact on the Liga MX fixtures list.
It’s likely that at least one of the positive results is that of Marco Fabián. The Bravos midfielder revealed his positive coronavirus test through his personal social media accounts this Wednesday. However, it’s also possible that the statement is pertaining to entirely new cases.
The team confirmed that the players in question are following safety guidelines, including isolation and medical supervision. Despite Mexican fans embracing the chance to gradually enter stadiums again, significant concerns remain over COVID-19.
32-year-old former Australian flanker David Pocock has announced his official retirement from rugby union. The former-captain had an impressive 15-year career with numerous highlights, including playing for the Western Force, the ACT Brumbies and the Wallabies.
This season, Pocock was set to begin a spell in the Japanese Top League with Panasonic Wild Knights. However, the forward instead chose to call it quits. For Pocock, it was a difficult decision, but he feels it’s the right time to move onto new opportunities.
After transitioning from the professional rugby union scene, Pocock wishes to devote his time to ecological conservation. He’s thrilled about a new project in his native Zimbabwe, combining regenerative agriculture, community development, and ecological conservation.
Star wing for the Hurricanes, Julian Savea, has officially signed a new deal with the Wellington team. A long-time favorite with fans of the Rugby Union All Blacks and neutrals, Savea is an incredibly effective tryscorer. The winger left the Hurricanes in 2018 for a spell in France with Top 14 side Toulon.
When asked about whether he wanted to return to the New Zealand fold, he answered unequivocally: “Of course, 100%”, Savea has been working on his return to Super Rugby since May and wants to add to the 54 caps he accrued with the All Blacks between 2012-17.
