The urn is staying in Australia, but England can still salvage something from the 2019 Ashes series.

While the win at Old Trafford ensured the visitors would retain the title for the time since 2001, the home side can square the ledger with a victory at The Oval.

Both camps have a few selection questions to answer between now and the start of play on Thursday, September 12.

Jason Roy has endured a torrid series with the bat and could be axed if Ben Stokes fails a fitness test on his right shoulder.

If Stokes cannot bowl and instead plays as a specialist batsman, Roy will drop out and either Sam Curran or Chris Woakes will take on allrounder duties.

The English selectors might also ditch Craig Overton, in which case both Curran and Woakes would play.

The big query for Australia is whether to give David Warner another chance at the top of the order.

Although the pugnacious lefty has struggled all series, the early mail suggests he and Marcus Harris will both keep their places.

With the Ashes wrapped up, the Aussies might also look to rotate their fast bowlers one last time.

Pat Cummins has played every Test and wants to complete the series, but James Pattinson, Peter Siddle and the uncapped Michael Neser are all in the mix for selection.

Rory Burns – +400 at Bovada
He is not a pretty player, but Burns has been the most effective of England’s top-order bats by quite a wide margin. The Surrey man has done his best work in the first innings, where he has registered three 50+ scores – including a ton – in four hits.

Steve Smith – +100 at Bovada
Smith has batted five times in this series and finished as Australia’s top scorer on every occasion. He has scored 671 runs at 134.20, hitting three centuries and two half-tons at a strike rate of 67.28. There is no reason to think he will slow down just because the Aussies have already secured the Ashes.

Stuart Broad – +250 at Bovada
Many will pick Stokes as England’s player of the series, but there is a strong case for giving that accolade to Broad. The veteran seamer has tormented the Australian openers and always seems to fire in the first innings, where he has claimed 14 of his 19 wickets this series.

Josh Hazlewood – +300 at Bovada
It is hard to say which three of Australia’s six quicks will play at The Oval, but Hazlewood has earned his place after starting the series on the outer. The 28-year-old from Tamworth has picked up 19 wickets in only three outings, with 13 of those scalps coming in the first innings.
