IS it time for Dusty to stand up and be counted?
The hard nosed Richmond midfielder has been a long way below his best this season, exceeding 25 possessions just once in the first five games and booting only two goals as Richmond languishes with just the one win and four straight losses.
To be fair, the kid has other things on his mind, with his father – an alleged senior member of an outlaw motorcycle club – has had his visa revoked and been sent back to New Zealand.
Martin has been travelling across the ditch to visit his dad for most of April and it appears to have had a big impact on his footy.
But we have faith that the tattooed one can bounce back and we’re predicting that the soft underbelly Port Adelaide has shown so far this season gives him the perfect opportunity to do so.
Last weekend’s disappointing effort against Melbourne was Martin’s worst performance of the year. He found the football just 18 times as the Tigers were whacked by the Demons, 20.9 (129) to 14.12 (96). He wasn’t alone, with captain Trent Cotchin, Anthony Miles and Jack Riewoldt the only Tigers who could hold their heads high.
If the Tigers want to win this game, they need Martin to be the match winner that he has been in the past and grab the match by the scruff of the throat and lead them home. He is $6.50 in group one to have the most disposals with Sportsbet.com.au
Martin isn’t the only gun midfielder struggling.
People are scratching their heads over the bizarrely poor form of Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak.
Operating in the guts, Boak had 27 or more touches 12 times last season.
He is yet to do that once in 2016.
But we feel like he is trending up, despite Port’s deplorable performances so far this year.
His best effort this year was on the weekend against Geelong in his side’s crushing defeat, 16.11 (107) to 8.11 (59). He led the side with 26 touches and maybe, just maybe he has turned the corner.
And he had 35 disposals in last year’s clash, which the Power lost by 33 points.
We feel like the $16 on offer with sportsbet.com.au for most disposals in group one represents fantastic value and is definitely worth a tiny drink up against a Richmond side that tends to get whacked by gun midfielders – Just ask Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan (both 29) and Joel Selwood (28) last week.
Up against Cotchin, Brandon Ellis and Jasper Pittard, this won’t be a walk in the park, but Martin appears the best value of the lot, while Boak is a classy player at long odds.
If you’re looking for something in group two, Darcy Byrne-Jones has been one of the few bright spots for the Power this season.
The mid sized defender has only played three games, but has improved his output in each one, with 14, 21 and 26 disposals. He’s trending upward and doesn’t have a ton of competition in group two at the $6.50 quote. Back the kid in to continue impressing.

Match predictions
Match winner: Richmond to win ($1.40 with CrownBet.com.au)
Line: Port Adelaide +18.5 ($1.92 with sportsbet.com.au)
Poor Port can’t take a trick. Already struggling, the Power has lost two of its biggest stars in Robbie Gray and Chad Wingard. Out of sorts ruckman Matthew Lobbe has been dumped and Jackson Trengove has been suspended. That makes it nearly impossible for them to win, but you simply can’t trust the Tigers. With Alex Rance rubbed out for two weeks for whacking Jack Watts last week, the backline looked vulnerable, even with Gray and Wingard missing. But they welcome back Mr Fix It Brett Deledio and, on their home ground at the MCG, should have enough tickets to just get over the line against a Port side that is in danger of missing the finals again. The two teams haven’t met each other on the G since 2012. That match ended in a draw and, considering how poorly both these sides are travelling, that wouldn’t be an unfair result, although the Tigers have one three of the four games there.
