Rohit Sharma’s 76 powered India to their third Champions Trophy title, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the 2025 final in Dubai.
India claimed the 2025 Champions Trophy title with a four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final on Sunday in Dubai, with captain Rohit Sharma leading from the front in a chase of 252.
Coming into the tournament as the pre-tournament favorites at +140 with top cricket betting sites, India delivered on expectations by maintaining an unbeaten run and securing their third Champions Trophy crown.
They also entered the final as strong -250 favorites with the top sportsbooks to defeat New Zealand.
The Black Caps put up a strong fight after opting to bat first, posting 251/7 despite missing key pacer Matt Henry.
However, India’s chase was set up by a 105-run opening stand between Rohit (76) and Shubman Gill (31), providing the perfect foundation for the middle order to finish the job.
Although New Zealand struck back by dismissing the in-form Virat Kohli (1) early, Shreyas Iyer (48), Axar Patel (29), KL Rahul (34*), and Hardik Pandya all made crucial contributions to keep India in control.
While the chase stretched into the penultimate over, Ravindra Jadeja (9*) sealed the win with the final runs.
“Very satisfying win,” Rohit said after the match.
“Right from the beginning our spinners… there is too much expectation, but they never disappointed. It helped them and we used that to our advantage. We were very consistent with our bowling.”
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was pragmatic in defeat, praising both his team and the champions.
“It’s been a good tournament,” he said.
“We have been challenged along the way and the way we have grown as a group. We lost to a better side today.
“Everyone contributed to the tournament and put their hands up at different times. It has been very enjoyable. Made easy by the group. Different guys stepping up at different times makes it easy. We have had a few challenges but we have adapted.”
