Australia’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign begins on Sunday as they face hosts India in what should be one of the matches of the Super 10 phase.
With India winning a three-match warmup series between the two sides just last week, they come into this match as rightful favourites on home soil. Winning the series 2-1, it was the likes of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer doing a lot of the damage with the bat and building strong form for the ODI World Cup.
With a fairly settled line-up, expect India to play just two pace bowlers: Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. Alongside them, the spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin should do a lot of the work through the middle overs, with all-rounder Hardik Pandya adding another seam-up option.
On the other hand, the Australian team has been anything but settled, as injuries to key players Travis Head and Ashton Agar have left them scrambling to plug holes in their batting line-up. With the Aussies expected to play three fast bowlers and at least two seaming all-rounders, a lot of pressure will be on Adam Zampa to cover most of the spin-bowling load.
With Mitch Marsh being pushed up to open in place of Head, the Aussie middle order now needs to show that it can increase its scoring rates in order to keep up with the opposition’s big scores.
It is hard to look past India in this one. Knowing the home conditions and having the crowd support, the hosts also have excellent finishers in both their batting and bowling line-ups. We’re backing them in at -149.25 with top cricket bookmakers.
Coming into this series with scores of 104 and 74 last week, Indian opener Shubman Gill presents as a dangerous opponent for the Aussies. At +275 with Nags.bet he is a great option for the top Indian runscorer.
For the Aussies, veteran David Warner has looked in excellent touch lately, getting to 50 in each of his last three matches while going at a solid strike rate. We’re backing Warner to lead the way as the top Australian runscorer at +333 with top betting sites.
