The Ohio Lottery Commission (OLC) has pre-approved 1,109 lottery retailers across the state to operate sports betting kiosks, and one of those retailers is the Kroger supermarket chain.
The Kroger Company is a multinational retail conglomerate based in the United States. It is best known for its chain of supermarkets and multi-department stores, which it runs either directly or through its subsidiaries around the country. The company operates under a variety of banners and divisions in 35 states and the District of Columbia, and its shop types include hypermarkets, supermarkets, superstores, department stores, and jewellery stores, among others. Kroger is also responsible for the operation of food processing or manufacturing facilities, as well as supermarket gasoline centers and more than 2,000 pharmacies.
As of July 22, there were 13 Kroger locations in Greater Cincinnati on the pre-qualified Type C sports gaming list:
- 7580 Beechmont Ave, Anderson Township
- 3636 Springdale Rd, Colerain Township
- 1 W. Corry St, Corryville
- 100 E. Court St, Downtown
- 560 Wessel Dr, Fairfield
- 4613 Marburg Ave, Oakley
- 3760 Paxton Ave, Oakley
- 11390 Montgomery Rd, Symmes Township
- 8000 Princeton Glendale Rd, West Chester
- 5910 Harrison Rd, Green Township
- 5250 Newtown Dr, Liberty Township
- 7300 Yankee Rd, Middletown
- 3033 Heritage Green Dr, Monroe
Kroger is considered a Type C location because it is a grocery store; hence, in order for it to become a “sports gaming host”, it is necessary for Kroger to fulfil a number of requirements. According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission’s website, applicants must be a for-profit business or affiliation with a particular form of liquor permit, a viable lottery sales agent license, and a recommendation for license from the agency in order to obtain official Type C gaming host licensing. Additionally, applicants must have a recommendation for licensure from the agency.
Sports betting in Ohio will be legal as of 2023. With this in mind, Kroger and other grocery shops, as well as bars, casinos, restaurants, and other establishments throughout the state, are submitting their applications in an effort to take grasp of the chance.
According to Action Network, these kiosks are comparable to the ones that can be seen in casinos and sports stadiums. In order to use them, you need to be at least 21 years old.

Once the law goes into effect, betting will be offered in a variety of venues, and it will be possible to place wagers via the internet as well as in traditional brick-and-mortar casinos.
Biosks were included in the sports betting bill that Ohio lawmakers approved and Governor Mike DeWine signed into law in December of last year. This was done as part of an effort to open the door for more businesses to take part in the industry.
Businesses need to submit their applications by August 15 in order to begin offering sports betting on January 1, 2023, which the Casino Commission refers to as the “universal start date”.
As of Tuesday evening, 350 people had submitted their official applications to the OCCC. The SPIRE Institute, a huge sports facility in Northeastern Ohio that also operates a boarding school for kids in their senior year of high school, has submitted an application to become a proprietor for both an online sports betting app and a traditional sportsbook in a physical location. In addition, Phantom Fireworks has applied for permission to become a retail partner with a sportsbook that will be housed in the Covelli Centre, which is a multifunctional arena located in Youngstown.
