Match-ups and best bets for Wimbledon Round 2

ROUND two action at Wimbledon starts today, Wednesday, July 1st 2015, but the round doesn’t wrap up until tomorrow, Thursday, July 2nd 2015.

This betting preview will analyze the Thursday draw at Wimbledon and present you with only the best bets.

A number of big names are back in action on Thursday, including Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Petra Kvitova and Carolina Wozniacki.

Let’s get right in to it then.

Brown vs. Nadal odds and predictions

• Match Odds: Brown (+770) vs. Nadal (-1000)
• Games Total: Over 34.5 (+110) vs. Under 34.5 (-125)
• Set Betting: Brown +2.5 Sets (+110) vs. Nadal -2.5 Sets (-120)

Dustin Brown (Ranking: 102) meets Rafael Nadal (Ranking: 10) in round 2 at Wimbledon.

These two foes have only played against each other once – Brown actually beat Nadal last year at Halle (grass) in straight sets (6-4 & 6-1). Brown was a 4/1 favorite when he beat Nadal. I don’t expect him to win at Wimbledon, but there’s value in the set market.

My best bet in Brown vs. Nadal is on Brown +2.5 sets at plus money (+110).

Brown won his first round match-up over Lu in four sets – he lost the opening set. Nadal beat Bellucci in straight sets, but he wasn’t sharp on the court. He only had one ace, only 59% of his first serves were in and he only won 65% of his first serve points.

If you look at Brown’s stats – he had nine aces, 62% of his first serves were in and he won the point on his first serve 81% of the time.

Brown has a big power serve and he’ll be able to steal at least one set from Nadal on the grass.

Pavlyuchenkova vs. Kerber odds and predictions

• Match Odds: Pavlyuchenkova (+410) vs. Kerber (-490)
• Games Total: Over 19.5 (-110) vs. Under 19.5 (+100)
• Set Betting: Pavlyuchenkova +1.5 Sets (+150) vs. Kerber -1.5 Sets (-165)

Angelique Kerber (Ranking: 10) will dominate the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Ranking: 42).

These two ladies have some history – the head-to-head record between Pavlyuchenkova and Kerber is split (3-3). Kerber has won three of the last four H2H meetings, but none of the six career H2H match-ups have been played on grass.

Kerber hit 72% of her first serves in and won 79% of her first serve points. More importantly – Kerber won 68% of receiving points in her first round Wimbledon match against Witthoeft (6-0 & 6-0).

Pavlyuchenkova needed three sets and two tiebreakers to beat Barthel in the opening round.

The Russian struggled on receiving points won (40%) and first serve points won (66%) against Barthel and things won’t get easier against the #10 ranked woman in the world. Kerber will win in straight sets – bet on her in the set betting market.

Querrey vs. Federer odds and predictions

• Match Odds: Querrey (+1200) vs. Federer (-2000)
• Games Betting: Over 33.5 (-110) vs. Under 33.5 (-105)
• Sets Betting: Querrey +2.5 Sets (+170) vs. Federer -2.5 Sets (-190)

Sam Querrey (Ranking: 36) will be in tough against Roger Federer (Ranking: 2) in round two.

Federer is 2-0 lifetime against Querrey, but they haven’t played each other since the French Open back in 2008. Federer is still tough on the grass, which was evident when he won at Halle, but Querrey has a monster serve and will make life difficult.

Querrey beat a tough customer in the opening round by defeating Sijsling in straight sets. Querrey had 30 aces and won 93% of his first serve points, but he only landed his first serve in 59% of the time and he only won 39% of receiving points.

Federer was consistent against Dzumhur in the opening round and he won in straight sets. Federer isn’t a player who is going to hit many aces, but he won 85% of his first serve points and 74% of his second serve points against Dzumhur.

My best bet is on over 33.5 games (-110), but I’m also betting on Querrey +2.5 sets (+170).

Querrey will push sets to the limit with his serve and with a couple good bounces, he can steal a set from Federer.

Wimbledon round 2 money line parlay picks

ML Parlay: Bautista Agut + Seppi + Dolgopolov + Kerber + Lisicki (+323) at 5Dimes.eu

Roberto Bautista Agut (Ranking: 22) starts the parlay off – he’s playing against Benoit Paire (Ranking: 68).

Bautista Agut is 6-0 H2H against Paire. None of the matches have been on grass, but five of them have been on hard courts. Paire looked good in his first round straight set victory over Youzhny, but he’ll run out of steam against the better player.

Andreas Seppi (Ranking: 27) can’t overlook Borna Coric (Ranking: 40), but the Italian should cruise in straight sets. Coric just had a tough opening round match-up against Stakhovsky, which lasted five sets, whereas Seppi beat Klein with ease in straight sets.

Seppi and Coric don’t have any H2H experience, which I believe hurts the Croatian more so than the Italian.

The toughest match on my parlay is Alexandr Dolgopolov (Ranking: 70) vs. Ivo Karlovic (Ranking: 25).

Dolgopolov has beaten Karlovic in both of the H2H singles matches they’ve played against each other. Both players have looked good during the grass court season, but I’m going to side with the Ukrainian to win this close round 2 Wimbledon match-up.

I’ve explained why I like Kerber already – I’m also betting on Sabine Lisicki (Ranking: 18) to beat Christina McHale (Ranking: 64).

McHale has some questionable losses on grass already this season and now she has to play Lisicki in the 2nd round at Wimbledon – a match she won’t last long in. Lisicki should win in straight sets and she’s a great parlay addition from the women’s draw.
