This series has been a bit of bummer up to this point, but the Mavericks may have figured something out. After losing the first three games of these Western Conference Finals, the Mavs convincingly won game four to claw the scoreline back to 3-1. They will still have to win their next three games to advance to the NBA Finals, so the odds are against them. The Warriors are proven playoff performers and will not let anything come easy for the Mavs. In a pivotal game five, anything can happen.
This is a tough game to pick. Either you think the Mavs figured something out in their blowout game-four win, or the Warriors didn’t care and let the Mavs win. Whichever storyline you go with, the Mavs have proven they can keep these games somewhat close and this line isn’t giving them a lot of credit. Luka Doncic has yet to completely steal a game, and it could be coming in this matchup. While he has been good in this series, Luka hasn’t dropped a 50-point game. Expect him to be motivated to extend this series and carry the Mavs in what should be close one.
The Warriors should still win the series, but up 3-1, it will be hard for them to find motivation. They feel comfortable in their lead right now and may not be able to match the desperation the Mavs have. Sure, Golden State will be at home, but home court advantage hasn’t been a big deal this playoffs. The Warriors will likely be in the finals whether they win or lose this game, and the Mavs are fighting for their playoff lives. Take the team that needs to win and hope that Dallas can keep it close.
