The news follows a steady stream of reports from different states across the USA that are exploring legalisation, following the news out of New Jersey this week.
On Thursday, New Jersey’s governor, Phil Murphy, plans to place the first bet in his state. Sports betting in Mississippi may soon follow suit to a limited degree.
Casinos on Indian reservations in the United States are quite common. Indian land has always had different kinds of regulations pertaining to it because tribes have some measures of sovereignty.
According to Mississippi News Now, there are some casinos that are under the control of the Choctaw Indians that may soon be offering sports betting. The news comes out of Philadelphia (a small city in Mississippi as opposed to the larger one in Pennsylvania):
“Pearl River Resort and Bok Homa Casino… will soon offer sports betting,” Morgan Howard reported on Tuesday.

The increase in news related to sports betting is related to the change of legal stance on the issue in the United States. Last month, the Supreme Court in the United States made it possible for sports betting to be legal everywhere in continental America.
Previously, there were questions as to how the legislation might affect casinos on Indian reservations because of their special relationship to gambling in non-Nevada states.
It has been about three decades now that federal law has permitted Indian tribes to operate casinos. Commonly, these casinos featured slot machines and table games, like roulette or blackjack. With sports betting entering the picture, the casinos on Indian reservations will likely be diversifying their products in the near future.
