National Rugby League multi of the week – round four

AFTER one of the strangest rounds of NRL in recent memory, we have two undefeated teams left in the competition, but are still no closer to having a true standout premiership favourite.
The Melbourne Storm may have had Billy Slater ruled out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury, but after their spirited win against the Warriors in New Zealand their premiership odds have come in a dollar to $10.00 with WilliamHill.
Another team to firm in the premiership market are the Canberra Raiders, who came in from $21.00 to $11.00 on the back of an impressive opening three weeks of the season.
With games spread out across five days this weekend we had our work cut-out selecting the best games to throw in our multi, but we believe we have found a great combination to throw your hard-earned on.
Canberra to defeat Gold Coast ($1.42 with WilliamHill.com.au)
Sydney Roosters to defeat Manly ($2.38 with WilliamHill.com.au)
Penrith to defeat St George ($2.10 WilliamHill.com.au)
Parramatta to defeat West Tigers ($1.54 WilliamHill.com.au)
Four leg multi pays $10.92 with WilliamHill.com.au
Canberra vs. Gold Coast
Our tip: Raiders to win ($1.42 with WilliamHill.com.au)
The Raiders host the Titans in the first leg of our multi.
Canberra have been one of the surprise packets of the season to date, and had Jarrod Croker’s long range field goal found its way through the uprights in the 84th minute last week, they could be atop the NRL ladder with three wins from three games.
The Titans have made a decent start to the season, with wins over the Knights and the Tigers.
Their twelve point win over Wests last week showed that the Gold Coast could be a surprise contender for a top-eight position come the end of the season.
The Raiders will not make it easy on Saturday given they sport one of the toughest and most disciplined line ups in the league.
The Titans have only won once at GIO Stadium and we are not expecting them to here.
Canberra to win is the safest way to kick off our multi and is the best bet of the weekend.
Sydney Roosters vs. Manly
Our tip: Roosters to win ($2.40 with Sportsbet.com.au)
Few would have predicted the three-time minor premiers the Sydney Roosters would be 0-3 heading into the fourth round of the season, but here we are.
Had it not been for a spirited comeback, the Manly Sea Eagles could have joined them at the tail of the ladder.
Suspensions have hit the Sea Eagles hard.
Manly will be without Martin Taupau who has been suspended for one week for his high shot on Jack Bird; while Brenton Lawrence also misses out through suspension.
One other factor playing in the Roosters’ favour is the 2015 anomaly which saw only seven teams win the week after facing the Cronulla Sharks, the team which Manly played in round three.
Will history repeat? We are thinking it will.
For that reason we are favouring the Roosters to cause an upset and add some value to our multi.
St George vs. Penrith
Our tip: Panthers to win ($2.15 with Sportsbet.com.au)
Third leg of the multi rolls on to Sunday with the Dragons hosting the Panthers.
Penrith are coming off the win of the season last week after storming back to upset the Broncos.
St George registered their first points of season 2016 with a peculiar 8-6 win over the Rabbitohs last week – a match which saw Greg Inglis inexplicably attempt a field goal on the siren with his side down by two.
The Panthers win last week proved they have the resilience to not just overcome a deficit, but to truly grind out a result against formidable opposition.
We are picking the Panthers to upset the Dragons on Sunday and make it back-to-back wins for the first time in 2016.
West Tigers vs. Parramatta
Our tip: Eels to win ($1.52 with Sportsbet.com.au)
Last leg of our multi is the Easter Monday clash between the West Tigers and the Parramatta Eels.
Both teams enter the match 2-1 after impressive starts to the season.
The Eels upset the reigning premiers a fortnight ago and crushed the Bulldogs last week and look to be one of the genuine premiership contenders after a shaky opening against the Broncos.
The Tigers have been one of the harder teams to read this season, and despite impressive victories over the Warriors and Manly, we are no closer to knowing whether they will be premiership contenders or pretenders this season.
It is a tough match to call but we are backing Parra’s form line here and we expect the Eels to make it three wins on the trot.
