Poland has increased the number of online sports betting operators to 14 after granting licences to Typiko Sp.z.oo. and Traf-ZakladywZAJEMME Sp. z oo.
Typiko Sp. z. oo, based in Bielsko-Biala, registered in Poland in June 2016 and lists Aleksandra Kuliniak as its president. It should be noted that the company has no relationship with the German betting company, Tipico.
The 14th licence was issued two days later to Traf-Zakłady Wzajemne Sp. z oo, based in Warsaw. Traf-Zakłady Wzajemne Sp. z oo is a land-based racing-betting operator with affiliations with the state-run lottery and slots monopoly Totalizator Sportowy.
The additions take the number of new online sports betting licenses issued by the Minister this year to seven. The same number was issued last year after the late 2016 amendments to Poland’s gambling laws.
It can be said that the Poland’s online betting industry is under-subscribed and is not performing as it should because of the 12% tax on sports betting.
Aside from Betclic Everest Group, Cherry AB and Fortuna Entertainment Group, the big names in the online betting industry seem to be dragging their feet after entering Poland’s online market.
Poland continues to blacklist unauthorised gambling domains that try to lure Polish punters. About 157 domains have been blocked since November 30, 2017.
Most of the blocked domains belong to Russian operator BetCity and licensed online casinos in Curacao. Among them was one Unibet domain.
Last October, the Kindred Group’s Unibet brand was heavily criticised after a report by a Polish media showed the company was cold-calling betters while spamming their phone number to appear to be calling from inside Poland.
