SRH post second-highest IPL chase in dominant display

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma put on 171 as Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed a target of 245 to end their IPL losing streak in style.

Sunrisers Hyderabad news

Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered records and silenced critics on Saturday night, chasing down a mammoth 245-run target with ease to stun Punjab Super Kings by eight wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Riding a four-game losing streak and priced as slight underdogs by top IPL betting sites, SRH needed a spark — and Abhishek Sharma delivered in style.

The 24-year-old produced one of the most brutal innings in IPL history, smashing 141 runs off just 55 balls to help Hyderabad post 247/2 and complete the second-highest successful chase in tournament history.

Earlier, PBKS looked to have all but sealed the game after piling on 245/6 from their 20 overs. The innings began with fireworks, with Priyansh Arya (36 from 13) laying a blazing platform before Shreyas Iyer took over.

Iyer anchored Punjab’s innings with a superb 82 off 36 balls, ably supported by Prabhsimran Singh (42), Nehal Wadhera (27), and a late cameo from Marcus Stoinis (34 off 11).

It was an imposing total and had live betting markets swinging heavily in Punjab’s favour at the halfway mark.

But the Hyderabad openers had other ideas.

Travis Head (66 from 37) came out firing with two early boundaries, but soon stepped aside for the Abhishek show. The left-hander brought up his fifty in just 19 balls and reached triple figures off 40 — the fastest century of IPL 2025 to date.

The pair’s 171-run stand in 12.1 overs stunned the Punjab attack and left the crowd in awe.

Head eventually holed out, but Heinrich Klaasen (21* off 14) provided calm support as Abhishek kept going.

When the southpaw finally fell in the 17th over, the damage was done — just 24 runs were required from the final 22 balls.

SRH sealed the victory with nine balls to spare, completing one of the most clinical chases in IPL history.

“We didn’t talk anything. It was just natural play for us,” Abhishek said post-match.

“This one is very special, because I wanted to break that losing streak. Losing four matches back-to-back was very tough. But we never talked about it in the team.”

The win lifts Sunrisers to eighth on the IPL ladder, now sitting above Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.

Top online sportsbooks have responded, shortening SRH’s title odds slightly to +1100.

Delhi Capitals (+400) remain outright favourites at Nags.bet, while Punjab hold firm on the fourth line at +650 despite the loss.

If Abhishek Sharma continues in this vein, Sunrisers’ playoff push might just be back on track.
