Holland vs Brunson UFC betting preview

In the final event before the highly anticipated UFC 260 PPV event, two top 10 UFC middleweights are set to battle for positioning in the rankings as Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 22 on Saturday night. Holland is the favorite with the top online betting sites.

Middleweight: Kevin Holland vs Derek Brunson betting & form

Kevin Holland (21-5-0) had a sensational year in 2020. With the UFC putting out weekly events to meet the demand for sports during the COVID-19 pandemic, Holland had the chance to enter the octagon four times in 2020. The 28-year-old won all four of those fights with three knockout wins that all earned him Performance of the Night bonuses. Holland has climbed to No. 10 in the UFC middleweight rankings with his recent performances and can keep the momentum going with a sixth straight win on Saturday.

Derek Brunson (21-7-0) is hoping to end Holland’s hype train and to re-establish himself as a legitimate middleweight contender. Brunson went just 2-4 over a six-fight span that stretched from late 2016 through late 2018, but since then he has turned things around with three straight wins. Seven of the veteran’s last nine wins have come by way of knockout including his most recent fight against the previously undefeated Edman Shahbazyan.

Brunson’s last two wins have come against good young up-and-comers. Can the 37-year-old halt the momentum of another promising young fighter in this bout? This is a show-me fight for both fighters as the winner of this fight could be in line for a fight against a top-five middleweight next. The loser could will likely find himself on the outside of the division’s top 10.

Brunswick vs Holland prediction

This should be a fun slugfest between two strikers that will be content to trade blows. The power of Brunson has to be respected as a potential path to an upset, but Holland hasn’t shown us anything in his 8-2 start in the UFC to lead us to believe that he isn’t ready for this test. Look for Holland to control the tempo of this fight with his long jab and to eventually set up a crushing counter for a knockout win.
