New Jersey sports betting laws
The state of New Jersey will forever be seen as a pioneer in the race to legalise sports betting across the United States of America.
In May of 2018, New Jersey was successful in its challenge to the Supreme Court, which overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, a 1992 federal law that banned sports betting in most of the country.
So, now that the ban has been overturned, what are the actual laws surrounding sports betting in New Jersey?
In preparation for a positive ruling from the Supreme Court, the New Jersey State Government sent a proposed bill to its legislature in April of 2018 with the goal of having New Jersey citizens legally able to bet on sports by June 30.
New Jersey will join Nevada, Connecticut, Mississippi, New York and West Virginia, which have all recently passed new sports betting laws.
