Sunday, July 29 – 7:00p.m Local time Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Gor Mahia’s high flying tempo will be put to test when they take on Tanzanian side Young Africans for their fourth match of Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The encounter, scheduled for Sunday evening, will see the SportPesa Premier League champions take the advantage to Dar es Salaam, after an emphatic performance during their first meeting in Nairobi.
K’Ogalo put an indelible imprint on the encounter, with the tie seemingly settled, following their 4-0 humbling of Yanga at the Kasarani Stadium a little more than a week ago. Both teams headed into the match without a win from their opening two group matches, but Gor’s evident superiority came into play, as they made light work of their East African opponents.

Head Coach Dylan Kerr had heavily attributed their winless run against USM Alger and Rayon Sports to complacency; a mistake the Englishman could not afford to repeat given the ruthless triumphant nature exhibited by his side this season.
The red flags were already evident from the offset for Yanga, as they spent the opening exchanges on the back foot, with Kerr’s charges relentlessly unleashing successive waves of attacks.
Gor Mahia finally found their breakthrough midway through the opening half with a goal from Jacques Tuyisenge. The Rwandan international guided the ball into the back of the net with the easiest of touches, although the Tanzanian defense could have done better with the cross.
Ephram Guikan, who has been rightly criticized this season for missing clear cut chances, found himself in acres of space after Humphrey Mieno delivered a piecing pass; this time the Ivory Coast forward making no mistakes about it as he doubled the advantage for K’Ogalo.
Away on a cold night with the intimidating Green Army in full voice, the Young Africans were markedly distraught after the interval- perhaps their biggest undoing of the night. Seeing as Gor Mahia is a side that feeds on fear, Sirkal picked up matters in the second half, as they forced in an own goal through a Mwinyi Haji header from a corner in the 65th minute.
Guikan grabbed his second of the night four minutes from stoppage time to cap off what was not just a massive statement of intent, but a much needed victory for the KPL side.
If Gor are a bullish side, then their willfully imposing nature has best been witnesses in the Kenyan Premier League. The reigning KPL champions are on the verge of securing a record seventeenth League title, as they currently lead the standings on 52 points- a staggering 12 points away from second placed Sofapaka- despite having three games in hand.
Gor Mahia vs. Young Africans Match prediction
Gor Mahia are second in Group D with five points, two points behind leaders USM Alger, and must pick up a win in Dar to heighten their chances of winning the group.
They prepared for the CAF Confederation encounter by cruising past Posta Rangers with a 3-1 win in the quarter-final of the SportPesa Shield in a midweek encounter.
K’Ogalo have an impressive squad depth, quite rightly the most impressive in East Africa, which is why you would expect Dylan Kerr’s side not to lower their guard when they line up against Yanga over the weekend.
