Leg 1 – Marcos Baghdatis vs. Mikhail Youzhny
Court 6, Tuesday 8.15pm EST
In one of the more interesting matches on Day 2 on the men’s side Marcos Baghdatis takes on Mikhail Youzhny.
These are two veteran players and it is interesting that both players had a career high ranking of #8.
Baghdatis is currently the 92nd ranked player in the world and Youzhny is ranked 106th. Baghdatis is a smaller player that is great on the baseline while Youzhny is also solid on the baseline. Youzhny has two semifinals appearances in the US Open in 2006 and 2010, while Baghdatis has never advanced past the 4th round here. This 8:30 PM match has Baghdatis as the favorite posted at -275 with Youzhny posted at +220.
Both Youzhny and Baghdatis lost their opening matches in their last tune-up tournament, but no surprise the Cypriot is the betting favorite with Youzhny with a less than stellar record of 6-16 this season.
Baghdatis has climbed back into the top 100 after dealing with the Challenger Tour for a while and he will come out on top in this first round match taking out the veteran Russian, who has had a less than stellar season.
Tip: Baghdatis to win at -275 at Bovada
Leg 2 – Novak Djokovic vs. Marton Fucsovics
Tuesday, August 28, Arthur Ashe Stadium at 3:15 PM EST
This match will take place on Center Court in Arthur Ashe Stadium at 7:15 PM EST on Tuesday.
This one may be a hard one to take since I am going with Fucsovics. He won his first ATP title this season and while Djokovic is back in form and has solid results as of late, Fucsovics is the 40th ranked player in the world and no pushover. He won the Geneva Open in late May, beating Stanislas Wawrinka in the process and also advanced to the 4th round of the Australia Open where he lost to Roger Federer. Take Fucsovics to win over 9.5 games and while the payout is not great, it’s a good bet for the parlay.
Tip: Handicap 2-Ways Games Won – Fucsovics +9.5 at -163
Leg 3 – Roger Federer vs. Yoshihito Nishioka
Tuesday, August 28, Arthur Ashe Stadium at 7:15 PM EST
King Roger looks to add to his trophy collection in New York and begins the U.S. Open facing 5’7″ Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan, who is unranked and 9-9 on tour this season.
The King already has three titles this season and in his last tournament lost to Djokovic in the finals of the Western & Southern Open.
On the other side of the coin, Nishioka’s retired in the first round of his last tournament in the beginning of the 2nd set after losing the first one 6-0. In his last Major he faced 3rd seed Marin Cilic in the first round and lost in three sets, only getting one game in the first set. This is why it is a good bet to take the Under for 8.5 games in the first set since Federer will want to set the tone early.
Tip: 1st set total games Under 8.5 games +137 at Bovada
