Fox Corp. has become the first major media company to enter the emerging US sports betting industry.

The company announced this week that Fox Sports had partnered with the Stars Group to create Fox Bet – a dedicated sports betting app that will launch in the American autumn.

The application will offer a full suite of wagering markets to gamblers in states that have legalised mobile sports betting.

Stars already has online sportsbook operations in New Jersey, while Pennsylvania and West Virginia have also given the green light to online gambling.

“Digital sports wagering represents a growing market opportunity that allows us to diversify our revenue streams, connect directly with consumers and expand the reach of the Fox Sports brand,” said Eric Shanks, CEO and executive producer of Fox Sports.

Seven states have launched regulated sports gambling markets since the US Supreme Court overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) last year.

Indiana and Montana have both ratified betting legislation in 2019, while the likes of Arkansas, New York, Iowa and Tennessee are not far behind.
