Champions Trophy 2025: India v Australia match preview

India and Australia will be competing for a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy final when they meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium this Tuesday.

India completed their perfect group-stage performance with a 44-run win over New Zealand on Monday morning. After being restricted to just 249 in the first innings, India’s spinners proceeded to take nine of the 10 wickets to bowl out the Black Caps in just 45.3 overs.

With wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh as well, India finished on top of Group A and are clear favourites for the tournament at +137 with major cricket betting sites.

On the other hand, Australia made it out of the group stage with just one win, as poor weather interrupted their last two games. They were well positioned before the rain intervened on Friday night, however, sitting at 1/109 from 12.5 overs after restricting Afghanistan to 273.

With just one-and-a-half games played in Pakistan, Australia now head across to Dubai as +150 underdogs with top cricket bookmakers, while India are favourites at -188.68.

India v Australia team news

After spin played such a strong role in their win over New Zealand, India are set to continue backing the quartet of Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy. There are concerns around the form of pace bowler Mohammed Shami, with Harshit Rana waiting in the wings. Meanwhile, the batting lineup is set to remain unchanged.

Projected India XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

Australia will be without opening batsman Matt Short after he suffered a quad injury against Afghanistan, leaving them with a tough selection call to make. Jake Fraser-McGurk is a like-for-like replacement at the top of the order, but they could instead opt to bring in an all-rounder such as Cooper Connolly or Aaron Hardie and push Josh Inglis up to open. Additionally, with spin-friendly conditions expected, leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha could come in for one of the pace bowlers.

Projected Australia XI: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Travis Head, Steve Smith (c), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (wk), Alex Carey, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson.

India v Australia betting predictions

Given India have played the entire tournament at this venue and have the spin attack to suit, it is hard to see them losing this clash. Australia have a second-string bowling lineup, while Matt Short will be a big loss with bat and ball. At -188.68 with Nags.bet, back the favourites to secure their spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy final.

Indian opener Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form throughout in 2025, passing 40 in five out of his six ODI innings. The right-handed batsman is known for his ability to attack the powerplay, while he is set to face the pace bowlers early in spin-friendly conditions. Gill has scored 50 in two of his last three games against Australia, so back him to do it again at +200 with Nags.bet.

Known for his performances on the big stage, opener Travis Head is the one to watch in the Aussie batting lineup. Last time these sides met, Head scored 137 in the ODI World Cup final, and he has since continued to be one of Australia’s most damaging batters. Coming off 59 not out from just 40 balls last time out, back Head to pass 50 again at +225 with Nags.bet.
