IPL betting resumes as overseas players tackle schedule changes

Cricket bookies have relaunched their betting markets for the T20 competition, although player availability remains a concern for several teams.

Cricket bookmakers have reopened betting markets for the 2025 Indian Premier League with the tournament set to resume on Saturday, May 17, after a one-week suspension.

Outright betting odds remain similar to what they were before conflict on the India-Pakistan border caused the competition to be put on hold.

Gujarat Titans are still favorites to win the title, although they now share the top line of betting with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at +260.

Nags.bet has Mumbai Indians marginally longer to win their sixth trophy (+275), with Punjab Kings next in the market at +400.

The adjusted IPL schedule means a host of overseas players are unlikely to be available for the entirety of the tournament now.

Jos Buttler (GT), Jacob Bethell (RCB) and Will Jacks (MI) have been selected for England’s ODI series against the West Indies.

The series, which starts on May 29, now clashes with the IPL playoffs, which conclude on June 3.

“No Objection Certificates have been granted based on the original IPL dates, so we’ll need to review any potential extensions, particularly in relation to any clash with the final white-ball squad,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in response to the overlap.

Romario Shepherd (RCB) and Sherfane Rutherford (GT) have been named in the West Indies squad and are likely to face a similar clash.

Meanwhile, eight South African players are facing the prospect of leaving the IPL early in order to prepare for the World Test Championship final.

Tristan Stubbs (DC), Aiden Markram (LSG), Ryan Rickelton (MI), Kagiso Rabada (GT), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), Corbin Bosch (MI), Marco Jansen (PBKS) and Wiaan Mulder (SRH) have all been named in South Africa’s Test squad.

“The initial agreement with IPL-BCCI was, with the final being on the 25th, our players would return on the 26th, so that it allows them ample time before we fly out on the 30th,” South African coach Shukri Conrad said.

“We want our players back on the 26th and hopefully that comes to fruition.”

Cricket Australia has said it will support individuals in making their own decisions about whether to play on or return home to prepare for the WTC final.

Pat Cummins and Travis Head are both likely to return for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have already been eliminated from the playoff race.

Josh Hazlewood, however, is under an injury cloud and remains in doubt for the remainder of RCB’s campaign.
