Lucknow end Gujarat’s winning streak with clinical six-wicket chase

Gujarat posted 180 after a century opening stand, but Lucknow cruised to a six-wicket win in a pivotal Indian Premier League 2025 match.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants continued their push up the 2025 IPL table on Saturday night, chasing down 181 against Gujarat Titans with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare at Ekana Stadium.

Despite Gujarat entering the clash as joint ladder leaders and favourites with cricket betting sites, it was LSG who handled the pressure moments best, handing GT just their second defeat of the season and bumping them off the top spot.

Put in to bat first, Gujarat looked to be cruising when Shubman Gill (60 off 38) and Sai Sudharsan (56 off 37) blazed to the season’s first 100-run opening stand. Their 120-run partnership came in just 12 overs and had GT eyeing a 200+ score.

But as the pitch slowed and the ball began to grip, momentum evaporated. Lucknow’s bowlers tightened the screws, with wickets falling regularly and Gujarat stumbling to just 60/6 in their final eight overs to post 180/6.

While the target was still competitive, LSG made the chase look composed. Openers Aiden Markram (58 off 31) and Rishabh Pant (21 off 18) ensured a positive start, notching 65 in the powerplay before Pant was caught behind point.

Nicholas Pooran (61 off 34) entered and carried on the assault, adding a rapid 58-run stand with Markram before both fell trying to clear the ropes.

But the platform had been laid, and Ayush Badoni (28* off 20) calmly steered Lucknow home in the 19th over.

“We were behind the game but if we got a few quick wickets, we could take the match deep,” said Gujarat captain Gill post-match.

“Our strike rotation wasn’t as good as expected… that’s something we have to work on.”

Gujarat remain firmly in the title conversation and are priced at +500 to win the 2025 IPL, sitting just behind the Delhi Capitals (+400) at the top online sportsbooks.

The Super Giants, now fourth on the ladder with a 4-2 record, have shortened to +650 at Nags.bet as they continue to build momentum at the halfway mark of the season.
