Saturday’s IPL 2025 action kicks off in Lucknow, where the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will play host to league leaders Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. With both sides flying high, this one shapes as a heavyweight clash.
LSG are coming off a thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders, successfully defending a mammoth 238 to notch their third victory of the campaign. Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran were the heroes, hammering 81 and 87* respectively in a dominant batting display. The pair now sit first and third in the orange cap standings – form that will worry any opponent.
On the other side, Gujarat have bounced back from an opening loss to string together four straight wins. Sai Sudharsan has been rock solid at the top, and his 82 off 53 balls was the catalyst for their 58-run win over Rajasthan Royals. Add Jos Buttler into the mix at three, and it’s clear GT are just as dangerous with the bat.
This match will also feature two of the IPL’s most consistent bowlers – Shardul Thakur for LSG (nine wickets in five games) and the crafty spin duo of Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore for GT. Expect an explosive contest between two power-packed outfits.
While Gujarat have looked solid, LSG’s batting at home has reached a new level. Pooran and Marsh are in red-hot form, and Shardul Thakur has been excellent with the ball. Add in the local knowledge of the pitch – which can sometimes slow down in the second innings – and the Super Giants are well-positioned to edge this one, especially if they bat first.
Nicholas Pooran has been in sublime touch, averaging nearly 45 this season with four 30+ scores in five innings. He looks comfortable against pace and spin, and with the confidence of being the orange cap holder, he’s likely to continue his strong run. GT’s bowling is tough, but Pooran has shown the class to find runs against any attack. The +290 for him to top LSG’s run count is appealing
Sai Sudharsan has emerged as GT’s most consistent performer at the top of the order, with scores of 65, 74, and 82 in his last three outings. He’s relished the responsibility in the powerplay and middle overs and looks more comfortable than even Shubman Gill at present. At +270 with cricket betting sites, he’s a smart pick for GT’s top scorer.
