It’s a smorgasbord of sport this weekend and we’ll take a look at some AFL, MLB and NHL Stanley Cup finals in our three-legger.
Suggested Multi for the weekend of June 12-14
MLB – San Francisco Giants to beat Arizona Diamondbacks @ $1.54
AFL – North Melbourne vs. Sydney Swans, either team under 15.5 @ $2.70
NHL – Chicago Blackhawks @ Tampa Bay Lightning, total game score under 5.5 goals @ $1.68
Approximate collect is $6.98 with sportsbet.com.au
MLB: Arizona Diamondbacks (C Anderson) At San Francisco Giants (Bumgarner)
Saturday, June 13, 12.15pm AEST, AT&T Park, Watch on ESPN
Prediction: San Francisco Giants win ($1.54)
Our boy Madison Bumgarner is the key here for the San Francisco Giants (34-26).
The reigning World Series MVP is one of the best pitchers in the game and we’re backing him to get the job done in this one up against the Arizona Diamondbacks (27-32).
The Diamondbacks can be a tough proposition on their day, but the Giants are the superior team here, sitting third in the National League.
They’re not big on left handed pitchers either, winning just six of 14 games against southpaw starters this season.
Young buck Chase Anderson takes the mound for the Diamondbacks and it will be the first time he’s pitched against the Giants.
Bumgarner is 7-4 with a 2.76 ERA against the Diamondbacks, indicating the gulf in experience between the two pitchers.
He wasn’t at his best against Philadelphia last time out, giving up five earned runs, but we think he’ll bounce back in this one.
Giants to get home in the first of this three game series.
AFL: North Melbourne vs. Sydney Swans
Saturday, June 13, 7.20pm AEST, Etihad Stadium
Prediction: Either team under 15.5 ($2.70)
We’re going to believe the North Melbourne hype for a minute.
Yes, we know the Kangaroos have for many years, promised much, but delivered very little.
But you just got the sense from the spirited, gutsy, special win over the West Coast Eagles that they might have just turned the corner.
It helps that Brad Scott isn’t in the coach’s box. Stand in Darren Crocker seems to know something about football, which is handy when you’re coaching an AFL club.
Sydney is cooking and really doesn’t mind playing at Etihad – winning in its last six visits to the ground – but we think this one will be a tight affair, decided by two goals or less.
North should have enough will after its win over the Eagles to at least keep this one close and we wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to take it out.
They’ll certainly want revenge for last season’s preliminary final defeat at the hands of the Swans.
That was a 71 point hammering. Can they bounce back?
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Sunday, June 14, 10am AEST, Amalie Arena, Watch on Fox Sports
What a series this has been so far.
Tied at 2-2, each of the four games has been decided by just one goal.
It’s only the third time this has happened in NHL history.
And it’s expected to stay that way, with the Tampa Bay Lightning turning up the defensive intensity against one of the most frugal teams in the NHL.
We reckon it’s going to be a tight, defensive struggle the rest of the way and it’s probably going to go to seven games.
“These guys are way better than anybody imagined at checking and trying to frustrate you,” Blackhawks forward Brad Richards said.
“We’re learning that mentality that it might be 2-1 games the rest of the way.”
And, by Richards assessment after his side just got over the line, 2-1 in game four, and, even though there is the possibility the Lightning will go on the attack to see if they can throw off that giant Chicago defence, we’re going with the score to fall short of the six goals required to cover the overs.
