MLB Wednesday betting picks & top parlay plays – June 1, 2022

MLB best bets

There’s a full slate of Major League Baseball games on Wednesday, June 1, with every team in action. There are seven American League games, seven National League games, and one interleague game scheduled from 1:10pm ET onwards. Here are the best bets on the games featuring American League teams this Wednesday.

Cincinnati Reds (+155) @ Boston Red Sox (-180)

Garrett Whitlock will start for Boston against Cincinnati on Wednesday, which is a favorable matchup for him. The Reds are almost entirely unfamiliar with Whitlock, who has struck out 6.2 percent of batters faced, and Cincinnati is one of the worst teams in MLB at making contact. Boston is one of the best.

Boston isn’t familiar with Hunter Greene, either, but that hasn’t stopped teams from tattooing the baseball against him. Greene is 2-6 with a 5.89 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in nine starts. He allowed five earned runs in his last start against the Cubs, but the Reds provided him with 20 runs of support.

Right-handed batters have absolutely smashed Greene, which doesn’t bode well for him in Fenway Park. Righties are 28-for-98 with 11 homers and a 1.008 OPS against Greene. Expect Boston’s J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts to enjoy their plate appearances against Greene, and expect Boston to win. Take the Red Sox on the moneyline.

Houston Astros (-200) @ Oakland Athletics (+170)

Justin Verlander continues to dominate despite his age, and outside of Elvis Andrus, you can expect him to dominate the A’s on Wednesday. Andrus is 20-for-65, but has managed just two extra-base hits. A player prop bet on Andrus to have at least one hit should cash, but stay away from a bet on him to collect multiple total bases.

You’ll also want to stay away from betting on the Athletics to win given how they hit – or, more aptly, how they fail to hit. Oakland is last in MLB with a .606 OPS. Take Houston on the moneyline, and parlay the Astros with the Red Sox for +133 odds with Bovada.

Minnesota Twins (-120) @ Detroit Tigers (+100)

The Twins have slugged five homers off Tarik Skubal in just 68 at-bats. Minnesota has managed to post a .956 OPS against the Tigers’ starter, with Byron Buxton leading the way. He’s got two homers and two singles in six at-bats. A player prop bet on Buxton to collect multiple total bases (maybe even three) is a good bet.

Bailey Ober stifling the Tigers is also a good bet. Ober allowed one run to Detroit in 3.2 innings pitched back on April 28. The secret to his success this season has been limiting opposing teams’ slugging percentages. Last year, Ober allowed a .489 slugging percentage. This year he’s allowed just a .364 slugging percentage, resulting in his OPS-allowed falling 126 points compared to last season.

The Tigers have posted the second-lowest team OPS in MLB this season, so don’t expect them to score much with Ober on the mound. Take the Twins to win the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying Minnesota with the Red Sox and Astros on the moneyline pays +305.
