Lotteriinspektionen has granted The Stars Group a licence to operate in Sweden from January 2019.

Stars Group

The Stars Group is the latest operator to venture into the Swedish gambling industry.

The Canadian firm joins the likes of Betsson, Kindred Group and Svenksa Spel as one of 19 companies to gain a licence from Lotteriinspektionen.

Sweden’s gaming and wagering regulator has received upwards of 95 licence applications since it commenced operations earlier this year.

At least 70 of those concern online gambling, with many coming from large companies that run multiple brands.

The Stars Group has fingers in many pies, including online poker giants PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.

The company’s portfolio has grown significantly this year with the acquisition of Sky Betting & Gaming in the UK and BetEasy in Australia.

It has also made a number of moves in the newly opened US sports betting industry.

The Stars Group’s Swedish licence comes into effect in January 2019.
