Ortega vs Jung UFC betting preview

The UFC Fight Night 180 main event between Brian Ortega (14-1-0) and the ‘Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung (16-5-0) is arguably the best non-title fight booked in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s five-week run at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Ortega returns to action after a long layoff against one of the featherweight division’s hottest fighters. The winner of this one will almost certainly be next in line to fight Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight Championship.

The Korean Zombie has been sensational since returning to the UFC after taking 3.5 years off to serve in his country’s military. Jung is 3-1 since his return in 2017, with three first-round knockouts against Dennis Bermudez, Renato Carneiro, and Frankie Edgar. His only loss since returning came in the final second of a five-round bout against Yair Rodriguez that he was clearly winning before getting caught by a fluke elbow. He has since bounced back with two dominant wins and could make a statement with another one this Saturday.

Ortega was a perfect 14-0, including a 6-0 start to his UFC career, when he faced Max Holloway in a championship fight in the main event of UFC 231 back in December of 2018. Ortega lost that fight due to a doctor’s stoppage and hasn’t had another one since. He has been thrown right back into the fire in this fight against the hard-hitting Korean Zombie.

This is going to be a war. Ortega is a fighter that is always moving forward and cycling through various forms of attack, both on his feet and on the mat. Jung is a fearless attacker and strong striker that has picked up all six of his wins in the UFC via stoppage, with four knockouts and two submissions. And as if their styles weren’t already conducive to an action-packed fight, these two camps have bad blood as well, which should only fuel the fire.

Ortega’s durability and versatility as an attacker make him an intriguing option as an upset pick here. But Jung’s excellent performances in 2019 and clear power advantage make him tough to bet against. Ortega will make him earn the win with his strong chin, but look for the Korean Zombie to emerge victorious.
