How to bet on the money line in NBA betting
THE National Basketball Association is the world’s richest and most widely-followed basketball league.
1946 saw the emergence of the NBA as a professional men’s basketball competition. Since then it has grown to include 30 teams from across the USA and Canada.
The regular NBA season kicks off in the last week of October and runs through to the middle of April the following year. The playoff period runs from April to June where eight teams from each conference compete to become that season’s Championship team.
Punters love the NBA because of the broad range of markets available. One of the most popular markets is the NBA money line bet.

What is an NBA money line bet?
The money line is a different way of producing and showing odds or returns on a bet. The money line shows you either how much money you would have to bet on a team to make a $100 profit or how much money you can make from a simple $100 bet.
The following is an example of an NBA money line bet:
Golden State Warriors – 450
New York Knicks + 600
This money line shows the Golden State Warriors are firm favorites to win the game over the New York Knicks. In fact, you would have to bet $450 to make a $100 profit on the Warriors, giving you $550 after a winning bet. However, a simple $100 bet on the Knicks would yield a $600 profit, leaving you to walk away with $700 in total.
Money line bets are a much more favoured form of bet with sites that cater to American customers.
Tips when betting on NBA money line
Firstly, understanding how money lines work is a great start. There is no point going in to a money line bet and not quite understanding how they work. You could accidentally place a bet on the underdog instead of the favourite you were intending to have a punt on.
Secondly is there actual value in the money line? Do you think the Chicago Bulls are such a sure fire thing to get over the Toronto Raptors and win that you are willing to risk $300 for a $100 return?
As with any bet, knowledge of the game you are looking at having a punt on is invaluable. Is it a home or away game for the team you want to back? What is the recent history between the two teams? Are there any injuries or suspensions to either side? Has either team recently been involved in a scandal that may affect their on court performance?
Just remember, a little knowledge can go a long way.
