Ashes 4th Test betting tips, odds and predictions

Ashes 2019 odds, tips and betting predictions

England – +149 at Bovada
Draw – +245
Australia – +180

The fourth Test of the 2019 Ashes series has a lot to live up to.

After a stunning comeback win by Australia in the opener and an entertaining draw at Lord’s, the third Test at Headingley kicked things into overdrive as Ben Stokes gave England one of the all-time great victories in the centuries-long history of the sport.

That incredible result leaves the series delicately poised at 1-1, but the momentum has shifted sharply towards the hosts.

England are now the +140 favourites in the 2019 Ashes series betting at Bovada, with Australia blowing out to +210 after going within a single wicket of retaining the urn in Leeds.

This comes despite the news that James Anderson will take no further part in the tour, having injured his calf in the very first session of the opening Test at Edgbaston.

But that loss may have taken a weight off the selectors’ shoulders, as the four-pronged pace attack of Stokes, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes has done the job for England in the last two Tests.

There could be changes in the batting lineup for Manchester, however, with Joe Denly tipped to open and Jason Roy to move back to no.4 in a bid to straighten up England’s misfiring top order.

But that is small potatoes compared to the task that lies before the Aussie selection panel.

Steve Smith is set to return after missing the third Test with concussion, meaning either Marcus Harris and Usman Khawaja will make way.

Fast bowlers Michael Neser, Peter Siddle and Mitchell Starc have all made strong cases for inclusion at Old Trafford, meaning one of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and James Pattinson could miss out.

But the biggest query is the no.6 slot, with several sources suggesting the tourists will dump Matthew Wade and reinstate Mitchell Marsh.

Wade was one of the heroes of the Birmingham Test, but Australia’s lack of a genuine allrounder was exposed in the loss at Headingley.

However the teams line up, expectations are high for the fourth instalment of what is already one of the great Ashes contests.

Ashes 4th Test top runscorer betting

Joe Root – +300 at Bovada
Root found some much-needed touch in Leeds and will look to build on that form in Manchester. The top order is a bit iffy and Stokes tends to do his best work in the second innings, which leaves the skipper as the best bet for England’s first dig.

Steve Smith – +150 at Bovada
Smith has top scored for Australia in all three of the innings in which he has batted. The battle between he and Archer will be an absolute beauty and you can bet the Aussie hero will want to make a statement of intent from the get-go.

Ashes 4th Test top wicket-taker odds

Stuart Broad – +275 at Bovada
Broad’s form with the ball has got lost among the all the chaos of this Ashes series. He is thriving as the senior paceman in Anderson’s absence and has looked especially dangerous in the first innings, where he has taken 11 of his 14 wickets.

Josh Hazlewood – +275 at Bovada
Hazlewood has made a big impact since returning to Australia’s Test XI at Lord’s. The big New South Welshman has taken nine first-innings wickets since then, five of which came in the last Test, so there is no doubting the efficacy of his early spells.

Ashes 4th Test betting predictions

Australia for highest opening partnership – -126.58 at Bovada
Both teams have struggled at the top of the order this series, but David Warner’s return to form at Headingley gives the Aussies a slight edge. He and his opening partner – whomever that may be – just need to take a sensible approach to Archer and Broad’s early onslaught.

England for first-innings lead – -120.48 at Bovada
England’s win in the third Test came despite giving up a first-innings lead for the only time in the series to date. That was courtesy of a disastrous 67 all out – the kind of extreme outlying stat that is unlikely to recur so soon.

England to win – +149 at Bovada
Momentum is everything over the course of a Test series and England have all of it right now. That Aussies are rattled after the Leeds fiasco and their selections for Old Trafford could make or break their hopes of retaining the urn.
