Everton vs Newcastle United EPL betting preview

Two teams with similar records in the English Premier League will meet when Everton go toe-to-toe with Newcastle United in a midweek encounter at Goodison Park.

The Toffees had to come from behind to register a 1-1 draw away to West Ham United last Saturday. That result has them 11th on the EPL table on 29 points – seven points above the drop zone and five points away from the last automatic European spot.

It has been a whirlwind season for the Toffees, who had to part ways with manager Marco Silva after enduring one of the worst starts to a league campaign in their illustrious history.

In came the intrepid Carlo Ancelotti, who has helped calm the storm at Goodison. Taking over a side languishing in the relegation zone following eight defeats in their previous 11 games, the decorated Italian launched his reign in Merseyside with a Boxing Day win over Burnley and followed it up with an emphatic 2-1 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Having lost just once from his first five Premier League games for Everton, the former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich manager will be hoping to climb into the top half with a win over the Magpies on Tuesday night.

Having undergone a tough Christmas period in which they lost three successive league games, Newcastle stopped the rot with a hard-fought draw at Wolverhampton and followed it up with a smash-and-grab victory over Chelsea last weekend.

That result saw the Toon rise to 12th place, where they sit level on points with Everton. With only goal difference separating the two sides, this fixture is shaping as one of the most entertaining encounters of EPL Matchweek 24.

Everton team news

Richarlison looks set to miss his second successive match due to a knee injury and Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson is out with a groin complaint.

Alex Iwobi, who has been sidelined since sustaining a thigh problem in December against Arsenal, could be up for contention, while Michael Keane will have to pass a late fitness test if he is to have any part in Tuesday’s match.

Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes are still unavailable due to long-term injuries.

Newcastle United team news

Jetro Willems could be ruled out for the remainder of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against Chelsea, while Paul Dummett has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The defensive pair joins the likes of Dwight Gayle, Andy Carroll, Jack Colback, Javier Manquillo, Yoshinori Muto, DeAndre Yedlin and Ki Sung-yeung on the treatment table.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin goalscorer odds and specials

• Calvert-Lewin to score anytime – -125 at Bovada
• Calvert-Lewin to score/Everton to win – +110 at Bovada

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is enjoying a high-flying season with the Toffees.

One of the shining lights in an otherwise dark Marco Silva era, the 22-year-old striker is currently the club’s leading scorer with 11 goals in all competitions.

Calvert-Lewin has found the back of the net four times since Boxing Day – a run only bettered by veteran Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who has scored six goals during the same period.

Having scored a brace in the reverse fixture, the in-form Calvert-Lewin looks destined to add to his tally against Newcastle this Tuesday.

Everton vs Newcastle United EPL betting predictions

Newcastle United may have condemned Chelsea to defeat over the weekend, but that was an isolated incident in a string of really poor outcomes by Steve Bruce’s side.

Yet to suffer defeat at Goodison Park since the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, and with a run of just one loss in 15 home games against the Magpies, Everton could potentially climb to eighth should a number of results go their way.

All signs point to a comfortable win for the Merseyside club.

Prediction: Everton to win – -181.82 at Bovada
