New Yorkers soon to be able to bet at The Meadowlands Racetrack

The Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey will be able to service New Yorkers that were shut out of that state’s legislative session on the matter of sports betting.

The legislative session ended without any inclusion of a sports-betting legalization process. That means the state will not offer legalized sports betting to its residents any time soon.

However, that won’t be that big of a deal to those will quick access to The Meadowlands Racetrack. The popular venue is just a short drive from the island of Manhattan. Furthermore, residents of the Bronx or Yonkers are just a little further.

That makes the racetrack easily accessible for millions of New Yorkers as Manhattan alone has a population over 1.5 million.

The manager of the racetrack, Jeff Gural, has indicated a timeline for sports betting at the venue that has to be considered advanced. The plan is to start offering the service starting on July 15th, about three weeks from now.

“It will be a long winter for the politicians when they realize that all the people living in New York can’t bet on sports and all the people in New Jersey can, Gural stated previously regarding New Jersey’s adoption of sports betting ahead of their southern neighbor’s.

July 15th is a Sunday and the selection of the date for opening sports betting may be strategic. That is the scheduled date for the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. Additionally, that is the date of the men’s final for singles for the Wimbledon championships.

That makes July 15th the biggest date globally in soccer/football for a four-year period. While tennis features four Grand Slams, Wimbledon is considered the most prestigious tournament for the sport. July 15th is, therefore, the biggest date for tennis for the year.

The convergence of attention of sports for that date can only benefit the racetrack as it debuts its sports-betting services.
