The moneyline is the simplest NBA bet. You pick which team will win the game outright. Overtime is included unless the market says otherwise, so your team only needs to win by one point or more.
NBA moneyline odds are shaped by team quality, injuries, rest, home-court advantage, recent form and matchup history. Heavy favourites will have shorter odds, while underdogs return more if they win.
Moneyline betting can be useful when you think a team wins but are not confident it covers the spread.
The point spread, also known as line betting or handicap betting, is one of the most popular NBA markets. The bookmaker gives the underdog a points start and the favourite a points disadvantage.
For example, if the Boston Celtics are -6.5, they must win by seven or more points for that bet to win. If the Miami Heat are +6.5, they can win outright or lose by six points or fewer.
Spreads are popular because they make uneven matchups more interesting from a betting perspective.
Alternate spread betting lets you move the line to create a different risk and reward profile. If you think a favourite will win easily, you can take a bigger negative spread for higher odds. If you want more protection on an underdog, you can take extra points at shorter odds.
For example, instead of backing a team at -5.5, you might back them at -9.5 for a bigger price or -2.5 for a shorter price.
Alternate lines are useful when your opinion on the game is stronger or weaker than the standard bookmaker line.
Margin betting asks you to predict how many points a team will win by. A common version is 1-10 points or 11+ points, while some bookmakers offer more detailed winning-margin bands.
This market can produce bigger odds than a simple moneyline bet, but it is harder to land because you need both the winner and the margin range.
Margin betting can be useful when you expect a close game or a blowout and the standard moneyline price is too short.
Total points betting asks whether the two teams will combine for over or under a number set by the bookmaker. This is one of the most common NBA markets.
For example, if the total is 224.5, an over bet wins if the teams combine for 225 points or more. An under bet wins if they combine for 224 points or fewer.
When betting NBA totals, consider pace, offensive efficiency, defensive matchups, injuries, back-to-back games, rest spots and whether both teams are likely to keep scoring late.
An accumulator, multi or parlay combines two or more selections into one bet. Every leg must win for the bet to collect, but the odds multiply together.
NBA parlays are popular because there are often several games on the same day. You can combine moneylines, spreads, totals and player props, depending on the bookmaker.
The risk is that one late basket, foul or resting player can ruin the whole bet. Keep NBA multis selective and avoid adding weak legs just to boost the payout.
NBA quarter and half-time markets let you bet on shorter sections of the game. Common options include first-quarter winner, first-half spread, second-half total points and half-time/full-time result.

NBA futures are long-term bets that are usually available before the season and remain open throughout the campaign. Prices move after trades, injuries, winning streaks, losing streaks, playoff seeding changes and major player news.

- Western Conference Champion: Which team will win the West.
- Eastern Conference Champion: Which team will win the East.

NBA Playoffs betting
The NBA Playoffs feature 16 teams, with eight from the Eastern Conference and eight from the Western Conference. Each playoff series is best-of-seven, meaning the first team to win four games advances.
